OMG!!! Not the Military!!!
Two more days until I leave for Basic Training. I can't believe that I actually joined the military. Well, I joined the Army National Guard for clarification purposes. Who would have ever thought? It's all for a better future, a better life, a better me. It's not at all going to be easy, but I know that when everything is said and done that I am going to be proud of myself, no matter who is not proud of me. I know that the choices that I am starting to make for myself are good ones.
There are some people who may not believe that joining the military is a step in the right direction, but ask them what they know about the military. Ask them what they feel the military is about? The first thing that people ask me when I tell them that I joined the military is, "Why?" My response to them is simply, "Why not?" They in return tell me that the military is going to send me to war. Is that suppose to scar me or something? I mean technically there are wars going on all on the home front. When you walk down the streets you are walking through a war zone. I rather die in war rather than die from walking down the street.
There are also so many benefits the military has to offer that people fail to see. Why? Because they are too busy going crazy over the whole aspect of Basic Training. I know this one person who's reason for discouraging people to go into the military is because she claims that people watch you when you shower. Now, how could she know this off-hand if she has never been to Basic Training since she is not in the military. First and foremost, everyone (males and females separate of course) bath in one huge shower with several shower heads. That's practically the same thing that you would have in a gym locker room shower. Any how, you get all off 30 for all of the females to bathe, so when there are about 50 or more females showering withing that same 30 minutes you do not really have time to sit there and look at the next person. When is something as simple as bathing in a room with other people something that should stop you from joining an organization like the military.
As I stated earlier, I joined the Army National Guard. I will be gone for about 5 months total. 9 weeks and 4 days for Basic Training and 9 weeks and 4 days for Advanced Individual Training (which is school for my Military Occupational Specialty). When I come back I'll have a nice little bit of change in my account. I will be going to school with my tuition being paid in full by the military, not to mention I will be eligible for funds from the Mongomery G.I. Bill, and I will be receiving a Montgomery G.I. Bill Kicker of $5G. I will be getting my Bachelor's Degree and upon getting my degree I will work towards becoming an officer. Which in turn will bring in more money. All the while I will be attending drills for one weekend a month since I will be in the National Guard Part-Time. There are so many doors that the military can help me open and I plan to open as many doors as I possibly can.
So do I think 5 months of discipline, physical training and fitness is worth it if in the long run I gain an education, a good-paying carrer, wealth, and an overall better future for myself and my future family. I think so. I think I can deal with a female peaking over at me in the shower every now and then for the first 9wk and 4dy.
